Celebrating Community & Health: 2025 Black Family Wellness Expo a Powerful Success in Hartford

The energy was high, and the spirit of wellness was in full force at the Black Family Wellness Expo, held on Saturday, March 15 at The Artists Collective in Hartford, Connecticut. Over the course of four vibrant hours, hundreds of families from across the Greater Hartford area came together to celebrate health, community, and empowerment at this free and public event.

Hosted by the Farmington Valley (CT) and Greater Hartford (CT) Chapters of The Links, Incorporated, the Expo was a joyful and impactful experience designed to promote health equity and connect families to critical resources that support whole-person wellness.

From the moment doors opened, attendees engaged in a variety of offerings, including:

·         Free health screenings for diabetes, posture, heart, mental, and oral health, etc.

·         Mental health resources and violence support services

·         Fitness demonstrations, including yoga, martial arts, line dancing, and double-dutch

·         Educational panel on caregiver support

·         Interactive tables from local wellness providers and advocacy groups

·         And of course, a free lunch for all attendees

“This Expo is exactly the kind of outreach our community needs,” said a sponsor representative. “It’s not just about providing resources—it’s about making sure people feel welcomed, informed, and inspired to take charge of their health.”

The success of the Expo was made possible thanks to the $25K raised from a dozen partner organizations who were committed to advancing wellness and equity in our community.  The Expo was made even more special with the appearance of National Vice President Shuana Tucker-Sims, whose presence underscored the national significance and impact of local community efforts.

The overwhelmingly positive response has us already thinking about how to expand the event next year.  We are building momentum, building partnerships, and most importantly building healthier families.
