Farmington Valley (CT) Chapter Joins 28th Annual Walk for Healthy Living

October 1, 2023

On Saturday, September 30, the Farmington Valley (CT) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, along with members, friends, and family, participated in the 28th Annual Walk for Healthy Living. This event brought together over 17,000 Links members from 299 chapters, along with their friends, family, and community stakeholders, to highlight the numerous health benefits of walking.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions, the event's spirit remained undaunted. Due to rain, the location for the walk was shifted to the Westfarms Mall. Participants gathered at 10 am and walked together for an hour, emphasizing the importance of physical activity.

For nearly three decades, the Walk for Healthy Living has been a cornerstone in encouraging African Americans and individuals of African ancestry to lead active lives. It is well-documented that physical activity helps manage weight, lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of diabetes, and enhance mental well-being.

The event is a pivotal annual milestone to reaffirm the commitment to reducing the incidence of chronic diseases that disproportionately affect these communities. This walk, which is now one of The Links' National Impact Days, allows all chapters and members to amplify their service's impact by delivering a consistent message on the same day to the communities they serve. Let's continue to move more and prioritize our heart health.
