HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
The Health and Human Services (H&HS) facet of The Links, Incorporated was established in response to the chronic health disparities that persist in Black communities and contribute to decreased life expectancy among African Americans and other people of African ancestry. The goal of H&HS is to promote and facilitate programs that support good health and eliminate chronic health disparities through education, advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources.
The SHE Series (Strong. Healthy. Empowered.) is the Farmington Valley (CT) Chapter’s comprehensive health equity initiative designed to address chronic health disparities impacting Black women and families.
The SHE Series focuses on the interconnected health challenges disproportionately affecting Black women, including breast and heart health, kidney disease (through the Black K.A.R.E. initiative), menopause education, and Alzheimer’s awareness. Through partnerships with local hospitals and community organizations, we provide health education, promote early detection and screening, and support patient navigation to improve health outcomes.
Building on more than a decade of successful health fairs, the Series culminates annually in our Black Family Wellness Expo — a community-centered event that connects families with preventive screenings, wellness resources, and culturally responsive care. Together, these efforts advance health equity, strengthen health literacy, and empower women and families to live longer, healthier lives.
